October 5th, 2016 - Hurricane Matthew takes aim at Charleston
Dave & I are in the middle of finishing a renovation on a house in Charleston...like, just weeks away....and all of a sudden Hurricane Matthew decides to take a turn on its way out of the Caribbean and head directly towards Charleston...as a Category 4 storm.
In an effort to be extra cautious and prepared SC Governer Nikki Haley issued evactuation orders for the entire SC coast. This (obviously) meant us.
The last thing we wanted to do was leave our project and home in harm's way, but honestly...what can we do about a hurricane besides pray? So we took a forced "hurrication" :-) to Boone, NC.
One of my cousins has a mountain house in Boone - seriously - can you even believe this view!? Two of my sisters were with us, plus one of their boyfriends. My sisters had been here before - not me! I was floored. Needless to say I have WAY too many photos to share, but here's a little bit of our "hurrication".
Tango came with us (obviously...who leaves their pet behind in an evactuation!?)
The first night at the mountain house was GORGEOUS (hence the sunset photos) but the day after ended up being cloudy and pretty chilly, so we just hung out on the porch and played cards/relaxed for most of the day!
Tango apparently doesn't like cards, she was bored with us in about ten minutes.
Right after this happy moment together (and by the way, Megan has control of my camera currently) they both informed me that I have a streak of gray hair. Damn....
Elysia & her boyfriend Andy joined us for cards - our favorite game (it was what we played most on our last cruise as well) is Asshole. :-) For those of you who do not know the game, just follow the link....but know that every house has their own rules.
I figured since we were in a gorgeous place I could give my camera to Megan and have her take some nice new photos of Dave and I.
......if any of you know Dave, you know that he hates having his photo taken. So here's what we actually got.
I gave up. We went back to playing Asshole. (Andy got to wear the asshole hat! haha)
We tried again - of course - FINALLY got a few worthy of sharing! He's a challenge :-)
Seriously. Gorgeous spot. Amazing day.
Hurricane-Eve (Oct. 7th, 2016)
Another rainy day - and this time a little more stressful - our contractor called us and told us that someone had lit the dumpster on fire at our renovation house. What the hell!? The fire department had to come to put it out, and while doing so they opened the dumpster up and had to spread debris all over our driveway - the day before a hurricane. And we were 5 hours away....
We didn't get a chance to hike - but we did take Tango on a little walk in the woods.
Hurricane Day - Oct. 8th, 2016
We went back to Charleston as soon as the hurricane moved far enough north - but we stopped at Blowing Rock, NC on the way by. Holyeffingcrap. Gorgeous!
Thankfully our house and apartment were undamaged - Hurricane Matthew "hurrication" - success.
