For any of you who actually know me - you know that this is a PAINFUL blog for me to post....but if there are any ladies (or gentlemen) out there trying to lose weight (or just get yourselves in better shape) you need to hear this:
Wine is my guilty pleasure....it's my relaxation after a long day of work....definitely my drink of choice for really any occasion. (Like....a new day counts as an occasion if I'd like a glass of wine).
I just quit. No, I have not given up wine all-together (like I would EVER do that?!) but I have SERIOUSLY cut back. Here's why:
The exact calorie count varies depending on the type of wine, but they're all right in the region of 125. On and also, 1 GLASS = 5OZ. (does anyone ACTUALLY only pour 5oz glasses?!)
Again, the exact calorie count varies depending on the type of white wine, ranging from 118 - 125.....and again....one glass = 5oz.
Here's what that looks like:
How many of you actually pour this ^ size glass? I know I don't....my glass of wine usually looks more like this:
I was getting frustrated about not losing weight....I've got a wedding in a month for goodness sake! I want to look good! I have been working out faithfully (I'm a personal trainer....I better be) as much as I can, with the exception of the two months (December & March) that I was on medical restrictions, but staying right around the same weight.
One of the biggest factors for ANYONE trying to lose weight and get healthier is diet, which seems obvious, but sometimes things slip by without us even thinking of them - in my case, wine.
Dave (my Mr.) and I were talking about how we could eat healthier (honestly, I was just asking him to help me by not suggesting pizza at every meal...since I always love pizza) and he mentioned taking a look at how many calories I was consuming via my wine intake. Here's what we figured out:
1 serving (5oz) = approx. 125 calories. I usually drank one or two glasses a night, but I poured closer to a 10oz glass, therefore I was consuming between 250-500 calories PER NIGHT just in wine. This equates to between 1750-3500 calories PER WEEK!
Basically by having a (big) glass of wine or two every night I was taking in more than an entire day extra's worth of calories every single week. Damn.
I am not saying that just by cutting wine (or other alcoholic over-indulgences) out of your diet you're going to lose a huge amount of poundage, but it will definitely help. They do say "everything in moderation".....apparently my former wine habits didn't count as moderation. Again, damn. I'm also not saying that the ONLY thing required to losing weight is quitting drinking (I'm a pretty healthy eater otherwise, no soda, etc) but keep it in mind if your goals seem like they are JUST a little bit out of reach.
Cheers to the weekend! (and my glass of wine!)
Lock us up inside for 7 months and of course the first chance we get we're going to go play outside in the sun! The gorgeous weather Sunday was the PERFECT excuse to get outside and practice with my camera, plus spend a little quality time with two of my sisters.
The sun was perfect down by the Kenduskeg river near where my sisters live, so we took a little stroll. The river is weird right now - it's really high from all the melting snow, but it almost looks yellow...I'm not sure if it's from the mud being stirred up, or from the street runoff. Either way, gross.
My favorite photos are the ones where apparently they forgot I had a camera....and that I'm a big sister so I have no problem taking funny photos. :-D
I've been taking photos of Megan and Elysia since they were little, and somehow we always end up giggly and goofy....even if we were trying to be serious! Thankfully we don't have to be serious too very often. :)
Megan is a loan officer, business owner, and aspiring personal fitness trainer! (ie. handstands galore)
The river might be a little dirty this time of year, and the sun may have been a tad bright (see squinty photo above) but MAN was it amazing to feel some warmth!
We were laughing SO hard...you know those deep belly laughs that make you sound ridiculous and make your eyes water? Yep....that's it.
Sunshine, a pretty park, and these two beauties = a perfect afternoon! Get outside and MOVE IT MOVE IT
One of my very favorite days of the month is MUST be the day my newest BIRCHBOX arrives. Now first let me set the record straight - I am NOT a girly-girl, nor am I good with makeup application, hair-styling, etc. - but I do love to try new products, and I'm trying to improve my "skills" one box at a time. (Also....I have yet to actually try any of the makeup items myself....so far my sister has tested them for me)
I've been subscribing to BIRCHBOX for a few months now (hence the two boxes) and this MIGHT be a girl thing, but it feels like a monthly birthday gift! I'm pretty sure the fact that they put tissue paper in the box is:
a. The best marketing idea ever
b. Taking HUGE advantage of the fact that everyone likes to open gifts.
(basically they're geniuses)
This month my box was specialized from Tone It Up (fitness mavens who I'd LOVE to follow after), and called "gym bag essentials". Love.
So far I've only tried the dry shampoo (a new item in my tool chest completely), but I love it. I've so far tried four brands, and the only two I like have been in BIRCHBOX samples. (Amika Perk Up Dry Shampoo & my newest Klorane Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk)
I will be updating all of my reviews....but for now I'm going to take my time trying everything out!
One of our favorite dinner recipes - Chicken & Veggie wraps! I prepped all of our ingredients ahead of time, so cooking only took about 10-12 minutes.
