Mother's day this year was a lovely little adventure. Dave was in PA partying it up (bachelor party weekend) with some of his best friends from his college years, so I was alone with "the Fam".
After church and breakfast we decided it would be fun to take a family hike to Great Head Trail in Acadia National Park. It's only about 45 minutes away from where we all live, so I figured (by the way, nothing ever goes quite like I "figure") we would have exactly enough time if we headed down around 3 pm to do the trail, and then have dinner at a reasonable hour. WELL.....we didn't leave town until nearly 5, so by the time we got there the sky was looking a little less friendly than we'd hoped, but we kicked off the hike anyway!
We had Taylor's dog Boris along for the trip - I didn't know this when I said "sure, bring him!" but even though he is extremely well trained, he has ZERO trail manners. Therefore Taylor spent nearly the entire trip keeping him behind everyone so he didn't knock us off the trail! It was quite the show. :)
The first part of the trail is very flat and easy, you could push a stroller if you wanted to, but then it becomes pretty rocky. (I still wouldn't classify it as difficult at all, but with a dog who wants to race it was interesting)
We stopped an took an "admire the view" break at almost every clearing - but honestly that is the only way I can take a clear photo - so I'm not complaining!
I gave Megan my camera for a second so I could put my hair back up....and of course when I look at my photos she's taken these two (very flattering) photos of me in the act. Trust me, I have some mad skills.
Boris was carrying a backpack with Taylor and Megan's jackets strapped into it, plus a few other random things Taylor decided to bring along - it didn't work well.
We finally made it out to the shore. Unfortunately after our photos (below) the clouds were looking especially nasty, so we actually turned around and headed back the way we came. Maybe next time we'll actually be able to complete the hike!
How awesome are those shots of them!? I think they're some of my favorite ever. Maine's coastline is so pretty....even when the weather isn't perfectly cooperative.
The family photos we got are a little less perfect - but man were there some funny ones! I'm being nice and not posting the worst of them.
Megan took my camera for a few shots so I could be documented along the trip as well....she got these next great shots too. Thanks so much, Megan.
We had a great hike - and somehow the rain held off until after we were back to the car. We ended up going to dinner in downtown Bar Harbor (I can't remember the name of the restaurant...oops) and then finally getting home around 9. Maybe next Mother's Day we'll actually get the whole trail in ;)
