This past week my last sister who still lives in Maine came down to visit (and we hope fall in love with the Charleston area enough to move down and join us!) so we did some new exploring.
Taylor (the lone sister remaining in Maine) is a dog trainer, so every time she joins us on an adventure we also have a few furry friends along as well. Today we were joined by Boris, Crash, and Taser.
The spot we decided to explore today was the Walterboro Wildlife Sanctuary boardwalk. it was gorgeous!
Dave and I had driven past the boardwalk a few times, but didn't really remember where it was. (we never wrote it down) Thankfully we knew approximately where we were headed and eventually we found the spot.
The weather here recently has been absolutely amazing, and today was no different. Apparently April in South Carolina is basically paradise. 75 and sunny all day long.
Dave had eagle eyes for some reason and spotted all the wildlife - the first thing he saw was this cute little lizard
Most of the 'hike' was actually stopping and posing for new portraits with the dogs, but I had some great practice at catching dogs in the proper position! Some of the quick moves they pulled (trust me the blooper photos are hilarious) were pretty incredible.
At this point in our walk Dave found the first snake of our adventure - and he found it AFTER walking off the trail to look at a tree. Thankfully we found out that it was just a harmless mud snake, but it was also very close to Taser's tail!
Boris (right) is always super photogenic, but Crash wasn't quite so easy to catch in a good position. He did, however, love hanging out with Dave - so these other photos were easy!
The rest of the boardwalk was pretty much the same - beautiful under the tree canopy.
The dogs had a fantastic time, we enjoyed the beautiful sites, plus we got to see some great wildlife!
The hikes may not be what we're used to, but the lowcountry swamps are fascinating places for us northerners. Next time I want to explore from a kayak or canoe!
