On March 1st, 2014 my extremely handsome boyfriend of 3 years proposed.
He took me to Niagara Falls, wined/dined me at a fancy revolving restaurant overlooking the falls in Canada, and then when we took a stroll around the observatory deck after our lunch he asked if I'd stay with him forever. No worries ladies, I obviously said yes.
After our initial jitters and excitement faded down to a reasonable level of happiness and anticipation we started talking about how and where we wanted to actually get married. It took us a lot of debate, but we finally agreed that there was only one style of wedding that would fit our personality as a couple: Destination.
We both love to travel, and while we've been together we've done our fair share of it. We've been to California 3 times - Augusta, GA - Charleston, SC - Denver, CO - Raleigh, NC - Syracuse, NY - Las Vegas, NV - Portland, OR - and all over New England. Because of our mutual love of travel we figured there was no better way to say our vows then to do it in a new and exciting place!
The second reason we chose a destination wedding is that we LOVE the beach. We decided that a tropical vacation with a wedding stuck in the middle of it would be perfect....plus we could force all of our friends and family who chose to join us to take a well-needed vacation with us! We decided to get married in Riviera Maya, Mexico. Our ceremony will be barefoot on the beach at sunset.....how perfect?!
Lastly, we decided on a destination because we are paying for our wedding ourselves, and after looking into all of our options the destination was really the only thing we could afford at this point in our lives. This next year holds a move, a wedding, two new car purchases, two different certification schools, and HOPEFULLY selling a house. We have to be frugal in every way we can. I'm not complaining, check out this gorgeous view!
So we started out our journey of wedding planning.....blissful, exciting, happy, celebration of love time....right? HA. Someone should have warned me.
I am unreasonably excited to marry my fiance, and to spend a week in Mexico with some of our closest friends and family - BUT - this has not been the year I was brought to expect by all of those lovely things we grow up with. Wedding bliss(misery).
a Mexican company and an American travel agency in planning....goodness. I had no idea. I'm not saying I'm stressed, but this year has definitely been a journey that I wasn't prepared for.
Suffice it to say I am more than excited to BE IN MEXICO celebrating our marriage with my guy and the fabulous people joining us. May 23rd cannot come soon enough. <3
